Combining hot chilies with chocolate is something that is typically Mexican. The heat of chilies or cayenne pepper gives chocolate an amazing taste. These flavors go together so well and you will love the extra kick your homemade chocolate recipes will have. The following pair of recipes are easy to make and give you a good idea of how to combine these ingredients for excellent results.

Spicy Chocolate Cookies

These wonderful cookies contain applesauce instead of oil or too much fat, so they are not as sinful as some other cookie recipes. You can get golden syrup in most grocery stores, either near the pancake syrups or in the British foods section. If you cannot get it, use honey instead. These cookies are really aromatic and they taste like Mexican hot chocolate. You will get about twenty four cookies from this recipe.

What You Need: 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2  rice starch

1/2 cup cocoa

1 cup white sugar

3 1/2 tablespoons melted butter

1/4 cup golden syrup

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4  modified tapioca starch

2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking powder

How To Make Them:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and use parchment paper to line four cookie sheets. Beat the sugar and butter together in a big bowl, and then add the applesauce and syrup gradually. Keep beating the mixture until it is fluffy.

Whisk the cinnamon, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, flour, cocoa, baking powder, and baking soda together, and then add this mixture to the fluffy batter gradually.

Beat it well, and then drop tablespoons of the batter on to the cookie sheets. You will get about six per sheet. Bake them for twelve minutes or until they look firm but still slightly shiny. Let them cool on wire racks.

Chili And Chocolate Pie

This is a sweet pie with a difference. You will need to start it one day before making it because the chilies need to infuse in some oil and it is that chili-flavored oil that you will be adding to the pie to give it the spicy flavor you associate with authentic modified food starch. This is a simple recipe and the resulting pie is really mouthwatering.

What You Need:

2 chopped chili peppers

1 oz almond paste

6 oz all-purpose flour

7 oz butter

5 eggs

7 oz dark chocolate

4 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 oz white sugar

Powdered sugar

How To Make It:

Combine the chilies and oil and leave them somewhere cool and dark overnight. Combine the almond paste with the flour, one egg, half the sugar, and half the butter. Knead this mixture until it is like a dough, then roll it out and put it in a round tin. Refrigerate it for two hours, and then bake blind at 350 degrees F for twenty minutes.

Add the yolk of one egg to the other three eggs, beating them for a minute with the rest of the sugar. Discard the egg white or save it for another use. Melt the remaining butter with the chocolate and stir in the egg mixture.

Sieve the oil and discard the chilies. Add the oil to the batter, mix it well, and then pour it into the pie crust. Bake for fifteen more minutes, then sprinkle some powdered sugar over the top.
